Regent's Park, London

Like all Royal Park, Regent's Park was initially used by Henry VIII for hunting.  It wasn't until 1845 that Queen Victoria opened the park to commoners (and then it was only for two days a week).  Now the park is a mecca for sporking enthusiasts with well maintained tennis and netball courts, football and hockey pitches and a boating lake.  For art and theatre enthusiasts there is the Open Air Theatre with regular children's favourites such as Wind in the Willows.  There are four well maintained playgrouns (located at Marylebone Green, Gloucester Gate, Hanover Gate and Primrose Hill) each with sandpit and toilets; and in addition to London Zoo there's a smaller wildlife garden with lots of local school projects to see.  And there are a staggering 9 family-friendly places to catch a bite to eat or enjoy a coffee.

The park also hosts regular family-friendly festivals such as Lollibop's music festival and charity fun runs.
