The maternity unit caters for around 3500 births per annum. The care is consultant shared with midwives with a Special Care Baby Unit on site. Midwives are grouped into 4 geographical areas and offer ante-natal care via the GPs surgery for low risk pregnancies. Waterbirths are supported and those choosing a home birth can hire a pool from the hospital.
