A very special place which is in essence a mini-zoo, but is also a birds of prey hospital and wildlife sanctuary. The hospital takes in or rescues birds of prey which have been injured, unwanted as pets and even mistreated and provides a safe haven for both them and some wildlife creatures too. Children learn about these birds, can watch the flying displays with buzzards, owls, falcons etc, and view the monkeys, snakes and other animals within the sanctuary. There is an adventure playground, a tea room with a children's menu and baby-changing facilities. Easy access for buggies/prams as the paths are flat. Open daily except Tues from 10.30am-4.30pm, but open all 7 days a week
We strongly recommend you ring Gentleshaw Wildlife Hospital before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Gentleshaw Wildlife Hospital, www.gentleshawwildlife.co.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Gentleshaw Wildlife Hospital hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
