Brecon Mountain Railway gives you the chance to immerse yourself in the incredible views of the Welsh countryside while soaking up the history of the vintage locamotive. The train takes you through Brecon Beacons National Park and along the Tal Techan Resevoir to the Dol-y-Gaer station. At Pontisticill station there is a a chance to take in the views on foot and have a little ramble, while the kids play in the rustic play area with views of the water. When your ready for a nibble there is a cafe and tea rooms upon your return to Pant. To add to the experience you can visit the worshop where old locomotives are repaired and commemorate your visit with a souvenir from the gift shop. The trains at Brecon usually depart from their main station at Pant and run often during the week, however it is advisable that you check the days before you set off. The railway host special events such as Santa Specials which begin in early December and Birthday parties which you will need to book in advance for, however on days when there is no event there is no need to book unless you are travelling in a big group.
We strongly recommend you ring Brecon Mountain Railway before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Brecon Mountain Railway to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Brecon Mountain Railway hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
