The Dean Forest Railway is a delightful steam train experience suitable for all the family. The trains stop at multiple different stops including Norchard, Lydney Junction and Parkend and mainly run on weekends, but we would advise that you enquire before leaving. To get a feel of the area you can alight at Lydney Town and take the kids to Bathurst Park or to the charming little stores around the town. If you decide to purchase a Rover ticket you can take the train to Parkend and have a leisurely luncheon at the various local ale pubs which offer good English grub. During the festive season you can meet Santa at the railways Santa Specials.
We strongly recommend you ring Dean Forest Railway before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Dean Forest Railway to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Dean Forest Railway hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
