The largest royal park in London with wide open spaces, mature trees, herds of red and fallow deer roaming freely, lakes, horses etc. Tucked away in the middle of the park is the Isabella Plantation, a secluded and tranquil wildlife garden full of azaleas and rhododendrons so best seen in early summer or late September (take a picnic too). Like all royal parks, Richmond hosts a programme of summer events for families, which is usually publicised on the website. You can hire bikes (from near the Roehampton Gate), go power kiting or visit the two excellent playgrounds. Open 7am, closes 30mins before dusk.
