Fountains Abbey is a well-deserved World Heritage site and comprises the monumental ruins of a 12th century Cistercian Abbey. Set in a medieval deer park with an elegant Georgian water garden this is a wonderful place for children to explore. There’s a new children’s play area, restaurant, tea rooms, shop and visitor centre. In the Water Mill children can follow the Roger the Rat trail or simply be amazed by the gigantic working wheel turning! The whole site is simply stunning. Open all year.
We strongly recommend you ring Fountains Abbey before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Fountains Abbey, www.nationaltrust.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket.
