Set within a Georgian wharf on the quayside at Canary Wharf, the Docklands Museum has three floors telling the story of London's river and docklands through the ages.  The exhibits start from the early Roman development of London and construction of the first bridge to the latest docklands development.  Highlights include the story of London Sugar and the Slave Trade; a walkthrough "Sailortown" complete with animal emporium, pub and a sparse front room, with evocative sound tracks; and Docklands at War with great black and white film footage of the wreckage from German bombers, walk in air-raid shelter and gas masks.

Museum of Docklands "Mudlarks"

On the ground floor younger visitors (really good for under 5s) will love Mudlarks (free access), which has a small soft play area, foam building bloocks to reconstruct Canary Wharf, and the "foreshore discovery box" where chlidren can uncover hidden objects under the sand and more.

Holiday and half term events are run in conjunction with the Museum of London so check the website or pick up a leaflet.

Museum of Docklands Cafe/Restaurante

Great cafe/restaurant (fab food and children's menu) next to the entrance hall, with comfortable sofas (great for breastfeeding), Tripp Trapp highchairs etc.

We strongly recommend you ring Museum in Docklands before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. Please also be aware that if Museum in Docklands hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
