Station Road, Wilmcote, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust owns and cares for six beautifully preserved period houses and gardens in and around Stratford-upon-Avon, all connected with William Shakespeare and his family. The most suitable venue for young children is Mary Arden's House and Farm. There are rare breeds to look at (Cotswold sheep, Gloucester Old Spot pigs, Long Horn cattle etc), there are dressing-up clothes (7-11 years), an adventure playground. For more active children, there are field walks and nature trails. The café is open seasonally and there are baby-changing facilities. Lots of activities are planned through the year; so best to check the website for the latest information. Open from end of March to beginning of October, 10am-5pm.
We strongly recommend you ring Mary Arden before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Mary Arden, www.shakespeare.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Mary Arden hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
