Home to the Earl of Harewood (the Queen's cousin), this Palladian country house is set in stunning Capability Brown landscaping. Set within the grounds is the Bird Garden. There's a lot to keep everyone happy from a boat trip across the lake, exploring the Himalayan garden to letting off steam in the adventure playground. Craft activities in the holidays. Opening in 2007 at Harewood is a planetarium (see www.yorkshireplanetarium.co.uk). Café (with lake views), picnic areas. A lovely venue for a family day out. Open mid-March to Oct.

It may also be worth visiting the website for Harewood House, www.harewood.org, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Harewood House hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
