Audley End, Saffron Walden, Essex
This grand Jacobean mansion was originally built by the Earl of Suffolk in the early 17th Century with gardens landscaped by Capability Brown. The gardens hold the most attraction for children with sculpted hedges and walks down by the river Cam, miniature steam railway etc. Special children's days are held throughout the summer with puppets and magic.
We strongly recommend you ring Audley End House before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Audley End House, www.english-heritage.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Audley End House hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
