A traditional Dales working farm with every imaginable activity to watch concerning a rough fell sheep flock and a beef suckler herd. Children and adults alike can handle the lambs (born beginning of March to end of April), watch the shearing (end of June to end of August), foot paring, worm dosing, sheep milking and sheep dog working demonstrations. There are goats and their kids, chicks, ducks, geese etc, lots to see and the Nature Trail takes in wonderful views as well as special sights such as an evening badger watch, bird watching, there are badger setts, fox holes, oyster catchers, owls etc. There are no catering facilities on the farm, nor baby-changing facilities but most of the terrain is pushchair accessible. You can of course bring your own picnic to the farm, and there are even camping facilities if you want to stay for longer. Open March to end of September from 11am to 4pm.
We strongly recommend you ring Holme Open Farm before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Holme Open Farm, www.holmeopenfarm.co.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Holme Open Farm hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
