This internationally renowned Shire Horse Stud consists of 50 acres of paddocks and open space for you to look and learn about these magnificent heavy horses and their foals (when in season). There are plenty of other animals to see such as mini Shetland ponies, goats, large Black Pigs, birds of prey, red deer, red foxes and red squirrels plus a nature trail along which you can spot swans, coots, moor hens etc. The Gift Shop sells ice creams and soft drinks and a local nearby pub provides lunches. Mainly accessible to pushchairs with ramps and gentle slopes, but in wet and winter weather there can be lots of mud so come prepared. There are no baby-changing facilities as yet, but a new tea room and loo block is planned for later this year. Open every day from 10am to 5pm except Christmas and New Year.
We strongly recommend you ring Cotebrook Shire Horses before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Cotebrook Shire Horses, www.cotebrookshirehorses.co.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Cotebrook Shire Horses hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
