Built by William the Conquerer, in 1068, two years after the Battle of Hastings, Lincolnshire Castle is an imposing structure that has in the past been a court and a prison with many being executed on the ramparts. Every year Lincoln Castle presents a full and varied events programme which usually runs from April to the end of August, visitors to Lincoln Castle can experience Medieval jousting, historical re-enactments and children's fun days. There is a café, a picnic area and a car park. Open throughout the year (closes for Christmas and New Year.) Monday - Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm, Sunday, 11.00am to 5.30pm.
We strongly recommend you ring Lincoln Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Lincoln Castle, www.lincolnshire.gov.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Lincoln Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
