Set on a hilltop overlooking the Vale of Scarsdale, Bolsover Castle enjoys panoramic views over the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Children will love learning about the fairy tale castle which is made easy by the colouring in and activity sheets provided. Outside in the grounds the ruined terrace is perfect for a game of 'hide and seek' and there is lots of green space for them to charge around. You will find even more activities in the Discovery Centre; audio-visual displays and the re-created 'Little Castle' for the little ones! On a warm day the grounds make an excellent place for a picnic or, pop into the café where you will find a variety of sandwiches, soups and light bites and the 'Little Squires' box for you little Squire's lunch. There are baby changing facilities provided and also a parking area. The castle is 6 miles east of Chesterfield on the A632, off the M1 at junction 29 (signposted.) Open daily from May-September, 10am-6pm. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the winter, closed 24th-26th Dec and the 1st of Jan.
We strongly recommend you ring Bolsover Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Bolsover Castle, www.english-heritage.org.uk, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Bolsover Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
