Framlingham Castle is one of the most important medieval castles in the UK. It was built by the second Earl of Norfolk in about 1190, on the site of an earlier timber castle. It is placed on a large mound, and there is a stone curtain wall linking the castle's 13 towers (you can walk along the top and it's fenced in so quite safe). Set in beautiful grounds for picnics and walks.
We strongly recommend you ring Framlingham Castle before you set off on your family day out, to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices. It may also be worth visiting the website for Framlingham Castle, www.english-heritage.org.uk/, to see if there are any special events on the day for which you may have to book a ticket. Please also be aware that if Framlingham Castle hosts birthday parties, this may limit the access in the cafe/restaurant areas.
