Bra-vo! Maternity Bra Options
Whey-Hey! Your boobs are changing. Check out what the bra-blogging expert Tracey-Jane Hughes, founder of bras4mums, suggests when looking to buy a maternity bra, whether you need a sleep bra, and the most gorgeous breastfeeding bras available.
bras4mums was set up by Tracey-Jane Hughes 6 years ago. She runs an excellent telephone consultation service, which takes a few minutes to establish your size and requirements. She then posts suitable bras, which can be returned if unsuitable. More recently she has recruited a number of expert bra fitters who come to your home with a selection of brands in your size.
First TrimesterYour breasts grow during the first few weeks of pregnancy, so make sure they’re fully supported by your bra cups and nothing is pressing on your breast tissue. These bras are wirefree, lined with cotton and have 6 hooks on back. Fit on the tightest setting to allow you to loosen the band as your ribcage expands during pregnancy. |
Second & Third TrimestersYou’ll be wanting more comfort now as your pregnancy continues. Stretchier and comfy fabrics are likely to help this. These bras are excellent for their softness and flexibility. You’ll need maximum support, especially along your sides, which can get really sore. Invest in two and you can rotate them.

Initial BreastfeedingGet fitted for your initial breastfeeding bras at 36 weeks. Your objective: support and easy access. Avoid the underwire as it puts too much pressure on the ducts and can cause Mastitis (blocked ducts). Bravado and Royce are good brands due to the soft stretchy structure and flexible size range (32B – 46F). Ideally get a soft/sleep bra to support your full heavy breasts or engorgement first thing in the morning.

Continuing BreastfeedingYour breasts will settle at about 12 weeks, then again as you start to wean, so this is the time to buy something that makes you feel all-woman as well as ensuring ongoing access. These brands offer pretty, sexy, wirefree and underwired using high quality fabrics and designs – choice for all. |
