First aid training that could help save a life

St John Ambulance has recently produced some very hard hitting adverts, highlighting the grave consequences of parents not knowing basic first aid.

Their research showed that 55% of parents would not know how to save their child in a life threatening situation and 41% of people admitted that it would take the death of a loved one to prompt them to take a First Aid course.

Further research from St John Ambulance showed that 62% of parents say knowing first aid skills would make them feel more prepared for parenthood. Also more than a third (37%) of parents said their child has had an accident that’s needed immediate first aid intervention whilst on holiday, and nearly half of those parents did not have the skills to help their child.

Sue Killen, St John Ambulance Chief Executive, said: ‘It’s devastating to find that over half of parents wouldn’t have the first aid confidence to save their own child’s life, and it’s not just parents. Over two-fifths (41%) of people admit that it would take something as severe as the death of a loved one to make them learn first aid. ‘we’ve developed an online experience to help more people be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. We don’t want anyone to be helpless in a first aid situation especially when learning life saving skills is so simple.’

Emma Hammett, founder of First Aid for Life was invited by Sky News to give a live interview on this vital St John Ambulance campaign, and highlight the importance of parents and carers taking first aid courses.

First Aid for Life offer various individual and group first aid courses in London, as well as online courses. Visit their website for full details www.firstaidforlife.org.uk.
