383-387 High Street, Stratford, London
This Stratford-based activity centre provides a unique sensory experience for children. On raindy days children can explore inside the story trail, walking across a wobbly bridge, or stepping on stones across the river to the sound of sploshing. You can visit the lion's den, make a spoon puppet, or do some dressing up.
Outside there is a wooden pirate ship in an outside garden, where you can walk up a chain, jump from a gang plank, and peep through portholes. Regular exhibitions downstairs provide ongoing creative and sensory experiences. Open between 10am-5pm except Mon during term time, and 11am-5pm Sat-Sun. Entry is £4 for adults and children aged 2yrs+-under 2's are free. It's a 5-10min walk from Stratford underground (Jubilee/Central lines).
Consider holding your child's birthday party here too - but call ahead for details - as it's very popular.

This was the first time I've been to the Discovery Centre and I didn't realise how much there was inside. Really great for the Under 5s - there's dressing up, a sound and light room where stepping on different discs on the floor produce a drum or symbol sound. Downstairs they've got Monsterville which once we'd got through the dark entrance, they really had fun. There's a shop with an old fashioned till with keys in the shape of eyeballs, there's a giant monster book to draw your own and a salon where you can try on a monster mask. Outside there's a garden with a pirate ship which you can explore and other things like wind chimes. Food had run out by the time we arrived so suggest you bring snacks in case.
